It is generally clear, highly aromatic, and strong. In Peru, it is particularly associated with rural communities in the Andes and Amazon regions, where it may also be known as sugarcane aguardiente, <em>trago de ca\u00f1a<\/em>, or <em>yonque<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The drink became deeply integrated into the social life of many communities. It may be served during patron saint festivals, communal celebrations, agricultural work, wakes, family gatherings, and Andean offerings.
